Iran Pledges Response to “Hostile Behavior” Amid Israel Tensions

(MENAFN) Iran’s highest defense authority issued a stark warning Tuesday, pledging a “firm response” to what it labeled “hostile behavior” as speculation mounted over a potential Israeli strike.

The Defense Council denounced what it called an "escalation of threatening rhetoric and interventionist remarks" directed at Tehran.

"Any aggression or continuation of hostile actions will be met with a decisive, proportionate, and determining response," the council declared, stressing that Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are "inviolable red lines."

Another statement underscored: “Any aggression against national interests, interference in internal affairs, or action against Iran’s stability will face a targeted, proportionate, and decisive reaction."

The body cautioned that Iran "will not limit itself to post-action responses" and vowed to "consider tangible signs of threat" in its security calculus. It added that even "threatening and interventionist rhetoric" could be deemed "hostile behavior" warranting a "proportionate, firm, and decisive response."

The unprecedented message suggested Iran may not rule out pre emptive measures if its forces detect a "tangible sign of threats."

Formed in August last year after a 12 day war with Israel, the council is chaired by President Masoud Pezeshkian and includes former security chiefs Ali Shamkhani and Ali Akbar Ahmadian. This marks its first official statement, issued against a backdrop of escalating Iran Israel tensions.

Reports in Israeli media claim Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may have secured backing from US President Donald Trump during a Washington visit for renewed military action against Iran, though Netanyahu said in a television interview that Israel was not seeking escalation.

According to Israeli outlets, Netanyahu also relayed a message via Russian President Vladimir Putin signaling he was not pursuing fresh confrontation.

Still, Trump’s own remarks have inflamed Tehran. Last week, he said the US is "locked and loaded" and will "come to the rescue" of Iranian protesters if authorities deploy lethal force against demonstrations over worsening economic conditions.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry accused Washington of "escalating tensions in the region," while senior security figure Ali Larijani warned the US "should be mindful of their soldiers' security" should an attack occur.
