Israeli Police Arrest Al-Aqsa Mosque Imam
The detention comes amid heightened Israeli restrictions at the Al-Aqsa compound, including limits on the movements of imams, preachers, and worshippers, as well as increased incursions by settlers under heavy police protection.
Hamas condemned the arrest, stating that al-Abbasi had been served with a ban from the mosque. The group described the action as “blatant interference in the affairs of Al-Aqsa” and criticized Israeli measures as part of attempts to control and Judaize the mosque, restrict worship, and impose temporal and spatial divisions.
Hamas also highlighted that these actions interfere with Ramadan preparations and limit the freedom of worshippers, calling the escalations “dangerous interventions” against the sanctity of the mosque.
