Israeli Strike in Lebanon Kills Journalist Amal Khalil—Red Cross

(MENAFN) A Lebanese journalist, Amal Khalil, was killed during an Israeli strike while reportedly performing her professional duties, according to statements attributed to the Red Cross on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, a Lebanese state-run news agency reported that “Israeli occupation forces are besieging journalists Amal Khalil and Zeinab Faraj, and preventing the Red Cross and the Lebanese army from reaching them.”

The report also stated that emergency and rescue access to the area had been obstructed at the time of the incident.

Since March 2, more than 2,200 people have reportedly been killed and over 1 million displaced due to intensified Israeli attacks in Lebanon, which escalated following the start of the Iran war, according to available figures.

Despite a US-mediated ceasefire agreed on April 16 intended to pause hostilities for 10 days, reports indicate that attacks have continued.
