Israeli Strikes Kill Two Senior Iranian Army Personnel
The deceased were identified as Bahman Hosseini and Alireza Abiri. According to reports, funeral ceremonies for the two officers were scheduled to take place later on Tuesday. Officials said they lost their lives while carrying out a mission aimed at protecting the country's airspace.
The deaths came amid a sharp escalation in regional tensions that intensified on Sunday after Israel launched strikes on Beirut despite an existing ceasefire. In response, Iran fired missiles toward northern Israel, leading to several rounds of Israeli airstrikes against targets inside Iran.
Hostilities continued into Monday before the Iranian military announced that it had suspended its attacks on Israel. However, officials warned that any further Israeli military action in Lebanon could trigger what they described as a “crushing” response.
According to reports, instability in the region has persisted since late February, when US and Israeli airstrikes targeted Iran, prompting retaliatory actions by Tehran against Israel and other countries in the region hosting American military assets.
Although a temporary ceasefire was reached on April 8, subsequent negotiations failed to produce lasting progress as disagreements emerged over the implementation of the truce and developments elsewhere in the region.
